Elisha was apparently also was known as Elijah Uzzell. I wonder if Uzzell is not a spelling variation of Ezell, the family who intermarried with my Wilbourns. Elisha Uzzell was born Abt. 1803 in NC; died June 10, 1868 in Pasreal, Mexico. He married (1) Unknown and (2) Lydia May 1833 in AL; born 1816 in AL; died 1880 in Montgomery Co., TX. Elisha Uzzell was the son of Major Benjamin Uzzell who was born Abt. 1774 in NC, and died 1841 in NC. He married Rebecca Kilpatrick Dunn Abt. 1798 in NC. She was born Abt. 1782 in NC, and died May 06, 1878 in NC. [GOLDSBORO MESSENGER, 09 May 1878: "Died in New Hope Township, Mrs. Rebecca Uzzell. Her maiden name was Dunn. Died Monday last. Until one month of her death, Mrs. Uzzell led an active life, keeping house for herself and attending her domestic affairs. Mother of 13, including the late Thomas and Joshua."] One son of Major [not sure if Major was a title or a given name, but probably a given name as it is repeated] Uzzell was Elisha B. Uzzell, born December 27, 1843 in Wayne County, North Carolina, and died May 25, 1928 in Bee County, TX. He married first Julia Anna Reed August 29, 1865 in Montgomery County, TX. She was born Abt. 1845 in Alabama, and died Abt. 1912. They, in turn, had a son Elisha Bryant Uzzell who was born August 28, 1869 (perhaps LA) and died November 16, 1928 in Beeville, TX. He married Eva Tennessee David December 28, 1893 in Mulas Ranch near Oakville, TX, daughter of Robert David and Louisiana Cole. She was born September 25, 1875 in LaPara, Live Oak County, TX, and died March 23, 1953 in Corpus Christi, TX. The following is of interest, as it connects this family to a Willborn/Wilbourn family of TX. Elisha Bryant Uzzell and Eva Tennessee David had a daughter, Nina Tennie Uzzell, born January 20, 1905 in Kenedy, TX; died December 08, 1987 in Houston, TX. She married Leslie Lee McNeil September 18, 1924 in Taft, TX. She provided the following narrative to Allen David (Eva Tennessee's nephew): "Mother was named for cousin Tennessee Willborn -- son of John & Frances Willborn. She was the 13th of 14 children, but actually the baby since Flora died in infancy. Mother & Dad first set up housekeeping on the Uzzell farm near Clareville, and later lived in a rented house in town. In 1900 an extremely bad drought made it difficult for South TX farmers, so Mother and Dad - along with Ben & Cora Uzzell and Felix & Nora Gray - took their children by wagon to East TX to try their luck. However, Mother developed malaria and they stayed with her sister Ellen Huffman in Taylor until she recovered. From there they all moved to Temple, where Dad helped her brother (John David) at his "Market & Grocery". From time to time they returned to Beeville or Clareville, but over the next years Dad worked for the railroad at Kenedy (where I was born). At one point they joined Jim David in Realitos to drill water wells. They homesteaded land near the Dud Davids in Hebbronville in about 1907, but the barren land and isolated life in Jim Hogg County did not appeal to Mother and they moved to Sandia about 1912. We farmed in Banquete and Agua Dulce for a few years, then moved to Sinton around 1921. Finally we returned to Beeville."
Another interesting fact is that Mary Rebecca Boone of Franklin Co., NC, is named the mother-in-law of "Elijah Uzzell" in guardianship proceedings in the June session, 1823, of Franklin Co., NC. Rebecca entered into bond with a Nathaniel Hunt, who I cannot place. Elijah Uzzell had been appointed in March 1822 as guardian to Rebecca's two sons Nathan and Johnston [more info in files of the children of Nathan]. Rebecca married two Goswick brothers, and the Goswick (also used the name Gossett and other spelling variations) family was in Union Co., SC, where Rebecca died, and intermarried with Pruitts and others connected to my collateral lines. Since Roy Willbern of Texas has a Pruitt line as well as a Wilbourn/Willbern line, I have to wonder if there is a connection to his line.
