1. Wagonmaster (Il. 1857) He was wagonmaster of Train 25 of Majors and Russell, supplying the forces of Albert Sidney Johnston in the so-called Mormon War of 1857. The train was burned by Lot Smith the night of October 4, 1857, on the Green River, Wyoming.
2. On the night of October 4, 1857, Major Lot Smith's Mormon party captured and burned Majors and Russell's Trains 21 and 25 in charge of Wagon-Masters John M. Dawson and R.W. Barrett at Simpson's Hollow on Green River. The bullwhackers of these trains were set afoot and had to walk twenty miles to Camp Winfield.
