Individual:
> When Theodore Brassard published the New Amsterdam Baptisms 1639-1730, where did he obtain the names on this list? Does the original list of baptisms still exist and if so, where are they located?? <
The earliest records (1639 - 1682) apparently do not now exist. When Selyns arrived in 1682, he re-copied these earliest records; it is this copy that now is the earliest version. [See: Records of the Reformed Dutch Chruch in New Amsterdam
and New York; Marriages ... edited by Samurl S. Purple, p. xii] I believe original records from 1682 on do still exist.
In 1952 they were at the offices of the Collegiate Church at 45 John Street in New York City. [NEHGR 107:177] Also see: http://www.collegiatechurch.org/collegiate.html
I'd guess they were still there.
You can get copies of them on microfilm from the LDS.
They were transcribed in serial fashion in the NYGBR in the late 1800's. Then in 1901 all those were collected into two volumes in a facsimile copy -- that is, they appear to be an exact reproduction that was not re-typeset. The first volume of bap. covered 1639 to 1730. They were reprinted sometime in the mid 20th C. And now recently these have been reprinted and are available from Bergen Historic Books -- again as a facsimile copy.
I do not know which of the above versions Mr. Brassard used.

Howard
