Dear Barry
I have gathered a little information about our family tree. Ross says on my grandfathers tombstone in Cape Bauld, says he was born in 1814 - died in 1888. I suppose the first leg of his journey was from Ireland to Newfoundland. probably earned money there to bring him to Newcastle N B Then he walked down the shore to Murray Corner where he met my grandmother Catherine Dalton, whom they say was born the year o0f the Miramachi Fire 1825(which ???) which makes her
ft just inside the entrance to the graveyard - white stone! It says ?Notown? of Newfoundland".
Note at bottom "Ken, I also have the original land grant made by Queen is Kenneth John Brien)
only 16 years old when grandfather applied for the grant in 1841 Right. They may not have been married that year. They were married in Grande-Digue, a village on the shore of Northumberland Strait. Maybe about 10 miles north of Sheciac. I am not sure of the distance. This was the only Catholic Church in Eastern Westmorland County at that time.
They rode horse back from Murray Corner to Grande-Digue Pretty good eh? If they were living today and had to by by horse back that distance
to be married, I doubt if they would bother.
You could have the parish record searched in Grande-Digue N B. They were probably married 1841 -42-43. Just a rough idea. The marriage certificate may give grandfathers birth place in Ireland. I showed your record to Don, Ron & told Ross over the phone. They all laughed and seemed satisfied. I never heard of Pat, Michael and James. I suppose they are great grandparents of Bill Blanch ?Oshawa?, Helen Blanch and sisters in Amherst. No doubt on account of scarcity of Catholic Churches at that time. accounts for the Protestants in the family. One of these Blanch women works at Mammalian's and has for years. Do you suggest I ask her if
tario I met him several years ago when I used to go there on ?? business & had dinner at his house. His grandfather was from Sackville - nam

They are correct about the spelling of the name. As you have found out from grants & old deeds. They are right and we are wrong. I do not know who changed the spelling. My brother Fred died in 1918 on the monument his name is Blanch. so is my fathers name in 193. Too bad I think we should use the spelling which was handed down to us * I think only Julia's family and George Blanche (Ross's father) Ron and ourselves use the e. Some night after 12 o'clock I am going to call your

I told you I inquired about my grandfather's brothers Pat, Michael & Jim. But they have no record.
But they have names Wm Blanch, his wife Elizabeth one son George age 20 yeas farmer. The parents were 53 years old in 1851 lived in Botsford. All that area is registered as Botsford at that time. Now Shemague, Murray Corner or Melrose.
I wrote to Northern Record Office, Belfast Ireland, Keeper of Records, because Mrs Weisnor told me to write them. I sent my letter by air mail. Have receiven no reply. Do you thik I should try Dublin?
Maybe they didn't keep records in those days
I also got the marriage certificate of Teresas great grandfather & grandmother, married in 1838 by the same priest who married my grandparents. But did not get a record of her Grandfather Amos Briens wife Mary O'Donnell from Bathurst.
