"While in Port Royal, Laverdure the elder would have stayed with his son Charles Melanson, who was in close contact with his parents. Charles's daughter Marie was living with them in Boston, where grandmother Priscilla raised the girl as a Protestant. In 1682, eighteen-year-old Marie married David Basset, a Huguenot merchant of Boston who was active in the Acadian trade. Cecile, another of Charles Melanson's daughters, married the Acaian merchant Abraham Boudrot of Port Royal, and accompanied him on his business trips to Massachusetts, where she stayed with her sister and brother-in-law. Eventually the prodigal brother Jean returned to Boston under the name John Melleson, married a New England woman, and raised a family of five children."
