Milners in New Brunswick
The Milners, like my ancestors, came to Canada (British North America then) in a "Second Wave" of settlers soon after 1815. Few settlers had come before them, perhaps a few thousand in the 1770s from Yorkshire and Scotland before the American Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and the War of 1812 prevented civilian travel. Three Milners made the journey to the Chignecto region (around Sackville NB and Amherst NS). Two were brothers, and the 3rd to arrive likely was another. They were John "William" born 1781, arrived in 1817, the Rev Christopher Milner, b 1787 who arrived in 1822, and James Milner born abt 1785 and arrived in 1827. These were distinguished families, many ancestors were highly regarded in the professions and business. William Cochrane Milner wrote the first and until recently the only history of Sackville NB.
