This file records descendants of John and Ann (Dale) Weldon of Yorkshire. The story I've pieced together about them goes: John Weldon was born 1732 in Crathorne, Yorkshire. He married Ann Dale of Middleham Yks in 1761, they had 4 children. They were among the Yorkshire Settlers who came to British North America, now Canada, in the 1770s (see my file on the Yorkshire Settlers here). Their means were even more challenging however: John set out first for Nova Scotia on a ship that was wrecked off Portugal. While he was making his way back to England, his wife Ann and four children travelled to Nova Scotia in 1774 aboard the Albion (a trip of 6 weeks or more). John then followed, arriving at Halifax in the fall. The family settled in Dorchester, Westmorland, New Brunswick. Ann was not strong: she had one more child but died in 1781. John married the widowed mother-in-law of his eldest son, Elizabeth (Emerson) Killam later that year. He lived to the age of 90, and Elizabeth to about 85. This family has included many distinguished persons, including John W. Weldon a judge of the NB Supreme Court (he married the daughter of the famous author Thomas C. Haliburton), and Richard C. Weldon II, founder of the Dalhousie Law School in Halifax Nova Scotia.
