Our Ibbitson ancestors came from Yorkshire England to British North America (as Canada was known then) about 1820. George LUND (abt 1788-after 1860) married Jane IBBITSON (1795-1878) in Sackville, New Brunswick in 1821. Jane was the eldest of at least 6 siblings who accompanied their parents William and Frances (Thompson) to the new world. Jane's parents and siblings settled initially in the Linden, Nova Scotia area across the border from Sackville. With the assistance of Myra (Ibbitson) Anderson, and others, the family has been traced in Yorkshire back to the 1600s, and forward from NB and NS throughout Canada and into the US to the present. Included here are Chapmans who descend from William and Mary (Ibbitson, Jane's aunt), one of the earliest and largest Yorkshire settler families, and my Lunds descended from Jane Ibbitson. Identifying individuals is complicated by the fact that the surname is often spelled different ways. This file covers 14 generations from the earliest identified Ibbitson, Edwardo of Yorkshire in the 1600s, to newly arived greatgrandchildren of Dovey and Alberta (Beal) Ibbitson in the Sackville NB/Amherst NS region. Of course there are many more to be found and new descendants to be added. Your assistance will be appreciated.
