!Dad, 6'1", lt. brown hair, blue eyes, called Irish by sib l ings. He got into the Army 1946, t hen switched to Air Co rp s as he wanted to fly. He co-piloted helicopters, fough t i n Korean Wa r, 1950-1952. Wrote letters and poetry hom e t o Mom, who had baby, Grady Allan after he went o versea s. H e bought her lovely blue satin pajamas in Japan, wher e he w ent before returning t o New York. He would never te ll me a bout war, but Patty said he talked to her about i t in 198 0 's, and he had her re-paint his leather bomber j acket wit h Korean dragon & his squadron on i t for son Gra dy Allan - as a treasured birthday gift in 1993.He retire d from th e Air Force i n May 1969 at Eglin AFB, Fort Walto n, Florid a as he didn't want to go to Vietnam 3 days late r . We move d to Washington & Oregon, then back to Alabama . He got a jo b teaching college at Oza rk, Alabama Aviatio n College. H e has completed 3 yrs of college education. H e taught Marc h 19 70-March 1988, then retired from teachin g. He now enjo ys fixing cars, fishing,rock-hunting, l apid ary work, teach ing rock classes, and camping & boating wit h wife, helpin g other peopl e & his 3 adult "kids" & 6 gra ndkids. He ha s lived in Arkansas, New York, Mississippi, K orea , Germany , Virginia, Maryland,Alabama,Venezuela, Wash ington D. C., F lorida, Washington, Orego n, Oklahoma,Texas ,etc. He wrote m e a short sketch of his boyhood, ages 0-1 1 yrs, in 1996.Gre at to get it from him. C alled me June 1 997--says he has ma cular degeneration in rt eye; how tragi c. Hope Lord bless e s his sight; he needs it. We put him o n 2 temple prayer r olls Jun 1997. He vis us July 199 7 i n Layton,Ut; Aug 199 7 we drove to them in Ozark, Ala f or 50th Anniversary Part y w/friends & r elatives, & I mad e a 50th "wedding cake"; g ood time, good visit,nice to se e U. Bob, A. Paulin e, U.Te d Dunn, & his 2nd wife Doris. D ad came out to see US July 1 998. In Nov 98 he & Mom t o St amford, Conn for judging East ern Federation Gem & Minera l Show. Aug 1999 married 52 year s -in Maryland & Michiga n for 2 rock shows. 16 Aug 99 calle d Mom-they just got i n bed, 17 1/2 h rs driving, are tired; from Chicago Illinoi s to Ozark, Alabama. Naughty, Dad! Tak e care of you r eye s & your health better...I LOVE YOU! the y visited me & m y family October 14-18, 2000-lef t 8:23 a m on 18th, drov e to SLC to Angie at work & gave her a birth day box & gif t & cards fro m me & Mom & late Christmas fro m Aunt Patty . He is worried D. is under a lot of stress wit h K evin i n school, Joel needing him to help hi miwth compu ter & pgm s & work, me being unhappy, k ids and family and w ork an d Scouts, etc... Dad says to not complain, and enjo y hous e & lift D .'s burdens. He's right. OXOXOXOX--I lov e yo u & miss you, Dad.
