Individual:
William Elbert Salyers, a son of John Elbert and Mary Ellen Salyers, was born in Carter Co., Kentucky, 9 September 1979 and died at his home in Shamrock, 25 ajune 1931, after an extended illness. He came to Illinois with his parents when a child. They settled on a farm west of Bogota where he spent his early life.
He was united in marriage to Miss Nora Rhodes on 17 December 1901, and they wer the parents of six children viz: Mrs. Floyd (Lenora) Sumners, and Mrs. Dewey (Marie) Elkin of INdianapolis and John, Burton,Leland, and William Salyers of Jasper County. Mrs. Salyers passed away on 21 March 1919. He was again married to Nellie Simpson on 22 April 1921, and to them were born seven children, Jessie, Delmar, Eugene, Nadine, Betty, Louis and Edmund, who with their mother, survive him.
In his early married life he went to Louisville on a farm, later moving to Bogota to conduct a blacksmith shop. After a few years he went to Shamrock, where he followed the blacksmith trade for many years. He was of a most accommodating disposition and was ready to lend a helping hand to everyone he could, traveling about the countryside helping gas engine and automobile owners merely to aid friends.
In early life he was converted and joined the Baptist Church at South Muddy, later moving his membership to Bogota, where he remained a faithful member until his death. His suffering during the last few years of his life was intense, but he bore his pain patiently, planning things he would do to repay his friends and neighbors for the many good deeds during his illness.
Besides his wife and children, he leaves two brothers and three sisters, three grand-children, step-son Donald Spainy, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Green of WEstfield and interment was in the Honey Cemetery.
