John Farrar of London, brother and heir of Henry Farrar, paid Heriot in 1611 for two coal mines in Sowerby and one in Hipperholme graveship in 1628.
He left Ewood to his eldest son, Henry, and says distinctly in his will that he had already settled and promised for his second son, John, the Brearley estate.

Comments: John inherited the estates of his brother Henry after
his death in 1610. In 1574, John married Cicely Kelke, member of a
prominent London family. The combination of these families greatly
increased their wealth and prestige. In 1609, John Farrer's arms were
confirmed by William Camden Clarenceux, King of the College of Arms,
whose legacy of heraldry dates to medieval times.
