Notes
Individual:

Robert Sandfort writes: Gehrt Sandfort was beaten to death by a man named Juergen Oldenhage. He was buried on May 12, 1695. No other legal records have been found that would explain this incident further.

By Artland custom, Johann Gerhard being the youngest child would have been in line to take over the Sandfort farm. However, because both he and his sister were too young, interim guardians were appointed who leased the farm for several years to Gehrt s sister Anna Christina and her husband Hermann Wielage.

In just four months of Gehrt s death, his esate had been settled and the Sandfort farm rented to his sister. It appears that the cost in death taxes of Rattcke and Gehrt Sandfort dying so close together in time was substantial. The farm lost capital from which the owners may have struggled to fully recover. pages 36 and 43
