In Dunstaffnage Castle
From My Clan : Their influence in Argyll brought them into conflict with the Campbells, and in 1294 John Macdougall, the Lame, led the clan against them. At the path of Lorn, between Loch Avich and Scammadale, the Macdougalls were intercepted, and although Sir Colin Campbell was killed, there was considerable slaughter on both sides.
Diane W. Sheppard writes: In 1291, Sir John swore fealty to Edward I at Perth. He rebelled against Edward in 1296. In 1297, he fought for Edward in Flanders. From 1310 - 1316, he was in command of the English fleet that fought against Bruce. He returned to London after his lands in Scotland had been destroyed. [CP]
Burke's adds that was known as Ian Bacach or Lame John. He defeated Robert Bruce at Dalry in 1306 and won from Bruce his brooch, now known as the Brooch of Lorn. He captured the Isle of Man in 1315.
