from 925 to 970, son of Sancho I Garcés and Queen Toda Aznar. He owed histhrone to the support of his cousin 'Abd ar-Rahman III, the Umayyadcaliph of Cordoba. The end of his reign was taken up with wars againstthe count of Castile, Fernán González. Sancho I of Leon, deposed by theCastilian, took refuge in Navarre; García took to the field and in 960managed to capture the famous Castilian, holding him prisoner for manyyears.
