Individual:
After 18 March 1647/8 (when she was granted land in Dorchester, and
before 17 November 1646 (when she was not named in her mother's will. Patience, an immigrant to Dorchester, Mass., in 1635, with her mother and
her son, b. probably in 1588; m. Richard Foster of Biddenden, co. Kent,
who d. in 1630.
The shipping list of the Elizabeth states that she was "aged 40" in 1635,
but shipping lists were often wrong in the matter of the passengers'
ages, and Patience could not have been born about 1595, unless she had
been a twin of her sister Rachel, bapt. in 1594, or of her sister Anna,
bapt. in 1596/7. Since she was not babtized with either of them, there
seems to be good reason for believing that she was older.
For an account of her descendants, see the Register, vol. 52, pp. 194 et
seq. Among the passengers from London, Eng., to America by the good ship
"Elizabeth," April 17, 1635, were Patience Foster, widow, age about 40,
Hopestill Foster, her son, and Rachel Bigg, mother of Patience Foster.
Rachel Bigg died at Dorchester in 1647. Patience (Bigg) Foster was the
widow of Richard Foster of Biddenden, co. of Kent, Eng., who died in
1630. Richard was son of Rev. Thomas Foster of Biddenden and Ipswich,
Eng. Baptized Cranbrook, Kent, 5 May 1588, daughter of John and Rachel
(Martin) Bigg
Marriage:
By 1609 Richard Foster (in his will of 28 June 1609, John Besbeech of
Biddenden, Kent, included a bequest to "Richard Foster and Patience his
wife". [NEHGR 67:33, citing Archdeaconry of Canterbury 58:216]
