Notes for John Sweeney:
John Sweeney wrote in his will of December 14, 1850 " my will is that my old negro man George and his wife Charlotte choose their home amongest some of my children and they are to take them without paying any thing to my estate for them." "And to treat them well and not abuse them." It comes to mind when he said my OLD negro GEORGE; could this be the same slave by name of George, that when his father Moses died and left his son John a slave my the name of George. Moses wrote in his will; " I also leave my son John Sweeney one negro man, George as his part of my negroes."
The record in John Sweeney's Bible (burned in 1937) listed 18 children, 9 by 2nd wife
Betsy Burnside, 7 by 3rd wife Sarah Hall and 2 records never found, which were presumed to be by 1st wife Polly McMurry with the possibility of all three being buried
in Moses Sweeney Family Cemetery.
