Individual:
Elizabeth was born probably in New York State about 1803. She came to Upper Canada as a smal
l child with her parents. There is an account of their crossing Lake Erie in an open boat, during which, Elizabeth almost drowned. Her family settled in Elgin County, near Vienna, about 1815. In 1819, she married John Elliott, who became a minister and respected merchant, and whose sister was married to Samuel Edison.
Of 11 children, four daughters and five sons were still living when Elizabeth died. Two of t he boys, John N. and Zeno became Episcopal Methodist ministers. The daughters all married Bayham Twp. residents, two being married to Weaver brothers.
Elizabeth's husband, John, died in 1855 and in 1857, Elizabeth married Rev. David Culp. The y spent some time in Newaygo Co., Michigan, before returning to live in Ontario. Elizabeth died in Ingersoll, Ontario in 1869, where her son was living. She is buried there. The remains of her first husband, John, and an unmarried daugter was also buried there.
