Individual:
Isabel Warren married (1) William de Blois, Earl of Moreton, in Normandy,
natural son of King Stephen, and this nobleman became, in consequenceEarl of Surrey, having by the grant of Henry, Duke of Normandy, upon theaccord made between him and King Stephen, all those lands which Stephenheld before he was King of England, as well. in Normandy and in England,or elsewhere. Among these where the castle and town of Norwich, with thewhole county of Norfolk, excepting what belonged to the churches,religious houses, and other earls, and especially the Tertium Denarium,by reason thereof Hugh Bigod was Earl of Norfolk. He had also the honorof Pevensey. This nobleman, who was of an unambitious nature, and enjoyedthe favor of King Henry II., accompanied that monarch to the siege ofThoulouse, and died there without issue in 1160.
Isabel, widow of William de Blois, heiress of Warren, married subsequently, in 1163, (2) Hameline Plantaganet, natural son of Geoffrey,Earl of Anjou and natural brother to King Henry II, who likewiseobtained, jure uxoris, the Earldom of Surrey, and assumed the surname andarms of De Warren. This nobleman bore one of the three swords at thesecond coronation of Richard I., and in the 6th year of the same reign,he was with that king in his army in Normandy. He died May 7, 1202, fouryears after the countess.
