Tribute to the Founding Family of Fairview,W.V. Research data indicates that James Amoss,son of Simon and Hannah Amoss, was born in Cheshire,England, on March 24,1684. At the age of 33 in May of 1717, he came to New Castle,Delaware, on the ship" Hamden". James, his wife Elizabeth, son Frank, son Andrew, infant daughter, made their home in New castle, Delaware. Son Andrew was born in Cheshire,England in 1709. In 1736 he married Harriet Hanley in Philadelphia,Pa.. Harriet died young and his second marriage in March 1741 was to Rebecca Clark at Chester Cross Roads, Pa.. One child of this marriage was James Amoss, born in Chester Co., Pa. on Oct. 11,1743. He went to Frederick Co.,Maryland in 1761, here he married Mahetable Walker in 1762. One of the children of this marriage was Henry Amos born 1763 and served as a drummer boy in Rev. War in 1788 and member of the Home Guard in 1799. In 1780 he married Dorcas Hall daughter of David and Ann(Charity) Hall. Soon after, he journeyed to Glady Creek of the Monongalia Co. Valley,W.V.
