Sioux Falls Argus Leader, May 9, 2003 Sioux Falls - Allen August Pfeifle, 70, of Sioux Falls, passed away on May 7, 2003, after a battle with cancer. Allen was born on May 18, 1932, to August and Anna (Engelland) Pfeifle, in Armour, South Dakota. The family later moved to Beresford, where Allen graduated from high school in 1950. He attended South Dakota State University, where he participated in varsity track, served on the Board of Control (Student Government) and was President of Blue Key Senior Men's Honary. He was also a member of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honary, and the Pharmaceutical Society. He received a degree in Pharmacy in 1954. Following graduation, Allen as commission as a a Second Lieutenant through the ROTC program and served at the Eight Army Medical Supply Facilities in South Korea, attained the rank of First Lieutenant, and was Honorably Discharged in 1956. On June 22, 1957, Allen married Betty Holmoe of Sioux Falls at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. From 1957-1960, Allen was a pharmacist at the Koenig Pharmacy and the Donahoe Clinic Pharmacy. In 1960, Allen became the owner and head pharmacist of the Clinic Pharmacy - later located at Central Plains Clinic - and the Koenig Pharmacy. In 1972, Allen founded and became co-owner of Unomed, Inc. He later owned and managed Scott's Pharmacy I & II in Sioux Falls. Allen was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, where he served on the Youth Board and Youth Advisory Group, and was also a Group Leader for the 21st Century Stewardship Fund Drive. He was the past President of the South Dakota Pharmaceutical Assn and past President of the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy. He was a member of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy where he served on the Blue Ribbon Committee on the formulation of the NABP national licensure examination. He was the state representative for the National Association of Retail Druggists. He also was a member of several fund raising committees for the SDSU College of Pharmacy, and was named Alumnus of the Year 2000. He was also the 1997 recipient of the Bowel of Hygeia Award given to a South Dakota pharmacist in recognition of his professional and community involvement. Allen was a thirty-year member of the Siouxland Lions Club, serving in all officer positions, including President. He was a YMCA Gray -Y and Junior Hi-Y Leader and Coach for 17 years. He also served on the Sioux Falls City Planning Advisory Group, the Board of Directors, Marquette Bank, Sioux Falls, the Good Samaritan Society Advisory Board and the South ridge Nursing Home Advisory Board. Grateful for having shared his life are Betty, son Craig and his wife Jane (Wipf) of Rapid City and their children, Amanda, Anne, Daniel, and Thomas; son Thomas of Denver, Colorado; and son David and his wife Lynda (Engelhardt) of Sioux Falls and their son Mark. Allen will be remembered for his devotion to his faith and family, his wonder sense of humor , and his commitment to his community and his profession. The family request that any memorials be sent to the Allen A. Pfeifle Scholarship in Pharmacy,South Dakota State University Foundation. or the Pfeifle Family Fund for youth Ministries with the First Lutheran Church Foundation in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday a Miller Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 7:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
