John Whitney, born at Southold about 1644; a miller; married,as supposed, Elizabeth Smith, and settled at Norwalk, where hebought his father's corn mill, under a covenant to perform allthe obligations his father gave as a consideration for the landand water privilege he enjoyed the use of, viz., that during hislife he shoulg grind all the grain for the familied of the placyfor a toll not to exceed one-sixteenth, and that the mill mustbe cleared of all such grain before any other could be ground.The record of his marriage or death could not be found.-Rockwelland Keeler Genealogy, page 6
