| Payton and Related Families |
The Paytons traveled from Amherst Co., VA to Madison Co., KY with Daniel Boone and settled in Boonsboro in 1775. In 1817, John G. Payton and Sarah Carson Payton settled in Howard Co., MO. John died sometime after 1829, and we find the children back in Madison Co., KY, living with relatives. In the 1840's, John's sons and daughters Lindsey, William , Andrew , Semira and Eliza, were back in Howard Co., MO. Sarah had remarried to a man named John Johnson, and although no positive proof of their marriage has been found, they are found in census records of Grundy Co., MO in 1850 and 1860. William left for Oregon in about 1862, but Lindsey and Andrew remained in Howard Co., MO. Lindsey's farm home was burned by Union soldiers in 1864, as well as his father-in-law's farm. (His father-in-law was also his uncle as he and his wife were first cousins). Lindsey and Aramander (Hume) Payton's first son, John Guffy Payton, was a Captain in the Confederate army, and was killed during the Civil War. After the War the family scattered, some going to Abilene, Texas; some going to Vinita, Oklahoma, and some to Los Animas, Colorado. I have included information pertaining to family members as well as families related to the family members. In other words, all the in-laws and out-laws.
