Dear Cousin:
Your letter was referred to me by Mrs. ellis. Am sorry I know so little about
our relatives. Your grandfather (Amos, #125) was my mother's twin brother
(Elizabeth, #554, married to Charles Franklin Elliott #553). They were born in
Shelby County, August 31st, 1835.
(Correct date is actually May 28, 1833). He (Amos) died July 5th, 1875. I
know nothing about his war record. His death was from a congestive chill
caused from bathing in a creek after getting too hot while threshing oats.
This was in July.
Your grandmother was Ann Thompson (126), her sister Carrie (506) is living in
Birmingham. She is now Mrs. Richard B. Posey. I will try to get her address
and send to you later. Mrs. Bennie William Gandrud, 311 Caglewood Terrace,
Tuscaloos, Alabama, has quite a collection of records previous to 1840 and she
might have records interesting to you. You might write her giving names of
those you are interested in obtaining information concerning. I am enclosing a
family record that I had. You will ntoe that your great-grandfather served in
the war of 1812. (William Elliott #131).
Should you or any of your family come to Shelby County be sure and come to see
me. I knew your mother (Mary Ella Elliott #118)_ and played with her when we
were children.
