Individual:
Note: Abner West was born about 1780-84 in S. Carolina. He marriedSarah Laffoon, the daughter of William Laffoon and SuzanaBledsoe. Sarah was born about 1785-90 in Surry Co., N. Carolina.
Abner and Sarah first appear in the Pendleton District of S.Carolina,in 1810. They were probably married about 1804. Two oftheir children were born in the Pendleton District. They wereEllen and Hardin. In 1814 or 1815 they moved to Hopkins Co.,KY.
Abner's father-in-law, William Laffoon, was apparently quitewealthy and an influential man. He was appointed a magistratefor Greenville and Pendleton District, S. Carolina. The reasonwe have found it hard to place Abner with his own family isbecause he seemed to associate himself more with the Laffoonsthan with his own West family.
Abner and Sarah went with the Laffoon's to KY where WilliamLaffoon immediately began buying land. Abner did not buy landthere until 1819. The rest of Abner and Sarah's children wereborn in Hopkins Co., KY. They grew up and began marrying about1824.
William Laffoon died 11-29-1821, and named Sarah West as hisdaughter in his will that was probated in Feburary of 1822.
Abner and Sarah moved to Crawford Co., MO, in 1831-32. All oftheir children and their families moved with them except one.Apparently Abner was in ill health or having some kind ofdifficulties as he named his son, John West, hispower-of-attorney to dispose of his property in KY. The land wassold in 1833.
Abner apparently died before 1840 in Crawford Co., MO. It isbelieved Sarah died between 1850-55 in Miller or Osage Co., MO.
