Robert, Al, Joe and Fred (son) were all in the stone business. They
formed the Bluffton-Lewisburg Stone Co., which merged and became theNational Lime and Stone Company.
Note in Autograph book: "This was written June 24th 1897 by Patterson
who was born June 24th 1826"Obituary: "Last Thursday death closed the long and useful life of
Robert Patterson at his home two miles east of Dunkirk, after anillness of eleven weeks. Mr. Patterson was for many years a citizenof this vicinity and his was an honorable, upright life. He served astownship trustee for many years. For years he was identified with thelumber business, operating a saw mill. He also opened a stone quarry:in all his has been a long and busy life until the weight of yearspressed too heavily upon him and in the past two years he has beenincapacitated for the active duties of life.
Robert Allen Patterson was the son of Samuel and Catherine (Murray) Patterson and was born in Highland county, Ohio, on June 24,1826. In 1832 his parents moved to the vicininty of Lafayette whereanother brother was living, hence Uncle Robert became one of thepioneers of Liberty township having moved in to it while yet a youngman. In 1850 he was united in marriage to Margaret Guthrie. Thechildren of this marriage are the following in the order of theirages: William, Mrs. W. C. McElroy, Dunkirk; Joseph, John, Allen, Rev.J. H., of Iowa; L. E. of Bluffton; Mrs. W. C. Good, Nevada [OH]
His second marriage occurred in 1878 to Nancy Newman who survives him together with three children all at home. viz., Mark, Earl andMyrtle. Mr. Patterson early in life became a member of the GermanBaptist church. His life was consistent with his profession. Hewronged no man but befriended many to his financial sorrow.
The funeral services were held Saturday at the Dunkirk United Brethren church, followed by interment in the Dunkirk cemetery. Someyears ago Mr. Patterson moved to Blanchard township, where his earthlylife closed at the advanced age of 79 years, 11 months and 17 days.His family will ever hold his life in most sacred memory for it wasfull of gentility and kindness to them ..."761 Robert A Patterson 24 Farmer Oh; Margaret 24 [married within
