Notes
Individual:
http://www.brinkfamily.net/tree/p150.htm#i7489Laban, Jacob's wily father-in-law, was the father of Rachel andLeah, and the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's mother. His greedinessshowed first when Abraham's servants appeared with gifts inpayment for Laban's sister, Rebekah. Laban, years later, negotiated with Jacob, his nephew, to give Rachel to Jacob as abride in return for seven years' service. When the seven yearswere up, Laban tricked Jacob by passing off Leah as the bride, and giving Jacob Rachel as a wife only after Jacob had promisedto work another seven years. At the end of this second sevenyears, Jacob planned to return home. Laban, hoping to hold on toJacob, asked him to name his terms. Jacob out smarted his uncleby saying that he would take only the speckled flocks---anddeparting with most of the sheep and goats, which happened to bespeckled. Laban angrily chased Jacob, but waskept from a battleafter being warned by God in a dream. The two settled theirdifferences by a covenant in which Jacob promised not tomistreat Rachel or Leah, and in which Laban and Jacob agreed notto transgress on each other's territories. [William P. Barker,Everyone in the Bible,Fleming H. Revell Co., NJ, 1966]1
