Individual:
Most likely named for the Congregational minister of the GreenRiver Congregational Church, David Porter, who instructed Rev.John Spencer, son of Deac. Joel Spencer, who may also have beenknown to Deac. Ithamer Spencer and Deac. Amos Spencer and hiswife Dorcas (she having also been a dau. of Joel Spencer.Note re: Rev. David Porterhttp://www.famousamericans.net/davidporter/:PORTER, David, clergyman, born in Hebron, Connecticut, 27 May,1761; died in Catskill, New York, 7 January, 1851. He served tenmonths in the Revolutionary army, was graduated at Dartmouth in1784, anal taught in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he studiedtheology, and was licensed to preach. From 1787 till 1803 he waspastor of a Congregational church in Spencertown, New York, andfrom 1803 till 1831 he had charge of the 1st Presbyterian churchin Catskill, New York Williams gave him the degree of D.D. in1811.
