Individual:
John C. Booe, while staying at the home of Tennison Cheshire, met Eliza Little Beemon,
widow of Richmond Beemon and John and Eliza married 8/15/1844. Source: Davie Co.
Heritage Book.
John Calhoun Booe was "bound out" (ca. 1830-1831) at the age of six or seven after the
death of his parents or grandparents and went to live with the Stafford family near
Winston. We believe it was the family of James Stafford because his son, John Monroe
Stafford, would have been only 16 or 17 years old in 1830/31. It was through John Calhoun
Booe that John Monroe Stafford met and married Mary Elizabeth Booe. When John
Calhoun Booe eventually left the Stafford household, he was given a horse and a suit of
clothes as a "going away" present. John Monroe Stafford and his wife Mary Elizabeth
Booe are buried together with most of their children at Pleasant Fork Cemetery.
I was advised by Ron BOOE (author of "Weathervane") several years ago that our ancestor, John Calhoun BOOE (at some point after the death of his father, John, and the remarriage of his mother) came to live with the family of James STAFFORD (the
father of John Monroe STAFFORD, who later married "Polly" BOOE) and remained with the STAFFORD family until he reached adulthood whereupon, it has been said, James STAFFORD gave him a horse, a suit of clothes, etc.and "sent him out into the
world to seek his fortune." Ron also opined that it was John Calhoun BOOE who played cupid by introducing John Monroe STAFFORD to "Polly" BOOE when "Polly" came to visit John Calhoun while he was living with the STAFFORD family. The evidence
suggests that "Polly" and John did not marry until 1842 (when she likely was 18 years old). The fact that their first child, Elizabeth Jane, was born on June 12, 1843, also indicates they most likely were married prior to September 1842.
