Col. Louis Charles Rabiau de Marevil was a widower who lived with his father and brothers on a Coffee plantation in San Domingo. He fled to the United States at the time of a rebellion by slaves who worked the plantation. Four of his five brothers were killed in the uprising. Judith Swann met Col. Rabiau while on a visit with relatives in Missouri. (Dicken, p.228)
