Text: Archibald served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Heenlisted September 20, 1862 at Jackson, Breathitt Co. KY. Hewas a private in Co. D, 5th Kentucky Infantry. He fought atLookout Mountain and Chattanooga. He surrendered May 6, 1865 atWashington, Wilkes Co. GA with Captain Callaway Cope and ColonelHawkins.
After the war he became a school teacher, a Baptist preacher anda farmer and moved to Matoffin Co. KY where he raised a largefamily. According to his granddaughter Sara Cooper Graham, A.C.told his sons that there was no future on Middle Fork and thatthey should get an education and go elsewhere.
