Text: Greenville served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Heenlisted September 12, 1862 at Jackson, Breathitt Co. KY, Hewas discharged for disability from disease in September 1863. Helater returned to duty, this time in Co. D and Lawson's Co, inthe 10th Kentucky Cavalry. Records indicate that he was aparticipant in the killing of Peyton Blackburn in Pike County onSeptember 1, 1864 when 8 members of the 10th Cavalry clashedwith a detachment of the 39th Kentucky Union Infantry at themouth of Brushy, a tributary of John's Creek in Pike County.Although the clash was typical of the hundreds of long forgottenskirmishes in the mountains, one local historian described theincident as a "feud-like" killing.
Green is listed on the 1870 Clay Co. KY Census with his wife anddaughter, Elizabeth. He is listed with his wife and family ofseven children on the 1880 Clay Co. KY Census living at BigCreek.
