Clarence J. duEntremont in his book Histoire du Cap-SableT (vol-3page1124) says that in a rare case where a European woman marriesanAmerindian, considered by Europeans as an inferior race. He issayingthat Marie Sale was married to Jean Claude a micmaque.
Plus he goes on to say that Genevieve Massignon has toyed with theideathat Martin Aucoin, the ancestor of all the Aucoins in Acadia, couldbethe son of Marie Sale in a first marriage with Martin Aucoin, the 20Jan1632 at La Rochelle, France
However there is no official record showing that Marie Salé wasthemother of either of the René Landry's.
This myth had its roots in the census of 1671 and 1678 when thecensustaker enumerated Marie Salé as being the widow of Jehan Claudeandresiding between René Landry, LeJeune and his son Antoine.
Well meaning genealogists later assumed that since she resided incloseporoximity to René Landry and his son, then she must have been themotherof René. And others went further and stated thet her late spouseJehanClaude would have been the father of René Landry.
Then this myth was further spread in the works of father LeopoldLanctot, when he states that Jehan Claude, who by then had assumed thename ofJean-Claude Landry, arrived in Acadia with his family of 10,whichincluded his second wife Marie Salé and both Renés. Father Lanctotrefersto them as half brothers.
This myth has permeated the genealogy of the Landry family for solongthat it is impossible to erase the damage it has done.
Jean-Claude Landry is a myth. He was not the progenitor of theRenéLandrys and thjeir subsequent progeny.
