Individual:
Joined the Colonial Army as a corporal in Captain Jack Brent's and Captain Jason Riddick's compnay, 4th VA Regiment. Which was commanded successfully by Col. Thomas Elliott and Col. RObert Lawson. He enlisted 02/13/1776, server 2 years, and was discharged 02/1778.
Afterward he married. According to will of John Reese, Sr. (dated 1792), Lucy Rosannah Reese, daughter of John Reese and Mary Thorpe and was the maternal granddaugher of John Thorp. Lucy's siblings were Randolph, John, Joseph, Mary, Patty, Rivers, Roger, Rowell, Ruben, Sally, Sela, and Sukey. Unto them was born 6 sons, 5 daughters: Randolph, Martha, Elizabeth, Lewis, Aaron, James, Mary (Polly), Reece, Lucy, William, Jr., and Sally.
In the early spring of 1792, William and his brother, Willis (also a rev. soldier), traveled on ponies to GA and there staked out serveral service claimes to what was known then as St. Paul's Parish, but is today known as Warren and McDuffie Co. They came with Soloman and Peter Newsom.
Willis entered McDuffie co. about 7-8 miles South of now Thomson, GA, near Sweetwater or Big Brier Creek. He claimed most of what is known as the Johnson Community. He chose a spot a mile West of the ford of Stamp Branch near Rocky Comfort Creek.
