Abraham was the first born to John and his second wife, Elizabeth Hanson Turner, born 4 Dec 1820, probably in St. Patrick, N.B. Abraham married 20 Oct 1841 in St. John, N.B. to Mary Jane Smith, dau of Robert Smith and Maria Jane Haley. It was very shortly after this that Abraham, with his mother, Elizabeth, and several of his Turner half siblings moved to Ontario. It is possible that the movement of his older, half-brother, Otis Haycock to Ontario may have incouraged this. They originally settled on Conc. 5, Lot 30 in Pickering Tnsp, Ontario Co., Ontario, known as Home District in 1842. This was beside his half brothers William and IsaacTurner. Some of the Turner siblings remained there but it appears that before 1851 Abraham moved to Dereham Tnsp, Oxford Co., Ont. He bought a 50 acre farm here on Conc. 1, lot 8 from Eliphalet Bodwell for 37 pound, 10 shillings in 1855. Although he is listed in the 1851 census in Dereham it is supposed that he worked the farm before purchasing it shorly after his mothers death here. In 1862, Abraham's wife Maria died, as well as his son Jesse, his third child to die. Being a widower with 5 children he married a second time to Lydia Harris, dau of Eli Harris and Mary Pierce.
The Harris family was another very large and influential family in Oxford Co. This family came from Otswego, New York and the family is well detailed in a two volume family history written by Margaret Harris Stover. This family has had some very prominent members including Lauren Harris, one of the "Group of Seven" famous Canadian artists, Anson Harris, one of the founders of Massey Harris Farm implement manufacturing company, just to name a couple. They are deeply rooted in Oxford Co., history and have numerous descendants.
Abraham and Lydia had 4 more children and spent the rest of their lives on the Dereham farm. Abraham died on 22 Feb 1901, and Lydia died in 1909. Both are buried in the Harris St. Cemetary and have a large stone about the geographical centre of the cemetary.
