John Ashton Haycock was born on 26 Jun 1863 in Salford, Oxford Co. Ont. He grew up on the farm in Salford and became a carpenter by trade and moved to London, Ontario. He married Margaret James on 26 November 1889, daughter of Daniel James and Maria Towns from Uxbridge, Ontario. From London they moved to West Zorra Township, Oxford Co., Ontario where he farmed. In 1910 he moved to Ingersol, Ontario where he opened a boarding house on King St.and supplemented his income by being a night watchman and a bailiff. They lived there until 1925 when they moved to Thamesford, Ontario. John and Margaret had two children. John died on 5 Sep 1935, in Ingersoll, Ont.,
