David Baird was born in 26 Jan 1816, with his twin brother Robert, to William Baird (b.abt 1770) and Janet Fergusson (b.abt 1773) of St. Ninians Parish, Stirling, Scotland. David is said to have travelled the world and even worked the diamond mines in Australia. A stick tie pin with a rough diamond that was in the family possessions but is now lost, probably came from these mines. David must have returned to England then come to Canada about 1855 with his brother Robert to Muir, Oxford Co., Ontario. It was here on 30 Sep 1863, at St Pauls Church in Woodstock, Ont. that he married 22 year old Janet Christie. David settled on a 100 acre farm in East Oxford, Ont. However, in May 1877 David took his own life by hanging himself in the barn. He left a widow and five children behind. David's mother, Janet Fergusson was the daughter of John Fergusson (b.c. 1750) and Katherine McNaugton (b.c.1750) of Stirling, Scotland.
