1850 census from Mississippi, Eastern Division,Chickashaw shows Abner W. Thomas living with John Thomas age 68 and Preston Thomas. I think this is probably this Abner Thomas and was probably living with perhaps his father's brother John Thomas.

Abner and Benjamin were executors of their father's will-1852-Richmond County,NC.
