Margery had naturally curly brown hair, a trait passed to her daughter Emma.

"Margery A. Gilbert -- Daughter of Rev. Noah Gilbert, born June 12, 1845, Coshocton, Ohio. Died June 9, 1918 in Colorado. Married by her father in Ohio, on Dec. 26, 1861 to John Brister Gardner, born Mar. 24, 1838, Coshocton, Ohio; Died May 17, 1918. The following spring after their marriage, they, with Rev. Noah and family came to Illinois. Left Ill. on Feb. 1888 for Otero Co., Colorado, where J.B., and son, William and son-in-law W.J. Lewis all staked claims. William, not knowing he had been exposed to measles walked four miles to file their claims. This resulted in his death, leaving a bride of one month, who returned to Ill. His sister Sarah Elizabeth, died four days later, also of measles. Children were: John Wesley, Allen, Adam Noah, William Henry, Sarah Elizabeth, Thomas Edward, Charles Ellsworth, Myrtle Alphreta, Emma Etta, Webber, Harry Clay, Bruce Oliver."

"Mrs. Margery A. Gardner, aged 73 years, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. William Lane, 930 East Abriendo Avenue, yesterday afternoon, following a long illness. Deceased was the widow of the late John [B.] Gardner, who died May 17 of this year. She is survived by three sons, Adam Gardner of West [York], Ill; T.E. Gardner of La Junta and H.C. Gardner of Terre Haute, Ind.; also one daughter, Mrs. William Lane, at whose home her death occurred. The body is being cared for at the residence by Davis & Vories and the funeral will be held from the Mesa Presbyterian Church of which deceased was a member, at a time to be announced later."
Wednesday, June 11, 1918:
"The funeral of Margery A. Gardner will be held from the Mesa Presbyterian Church this morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. F. A. Hatch will the conduct the services and interment will be made in the family plot in Mountain View Cemetery in charge of Davis & Vories."
Thursday, June 12, 1918:
"The funeral of Mrs. Margery A. Gardner was held from the Mesa Presbyterian Church yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. F.A. Hatch conducted the services and paid a beautiful tribute to the Christian life of the departed. Mrs. C.V. Thomas and Mrs. Prosser, accompanied by Mr. Hatch, sang "Face to Face", "Christian's Goodnight" and "My Jesus As Thou Wilt." The pallbearers were J.P Martel, William Jehle, Luke Lutin, George L. White, Robert Wartenbee, and Charles B. Crawford. Interment was made in Mountain View in charge of Davis & Vories."
