Text: HENRY B. HAGAN DEAD IN 77TH YEAR
Engrossed Diplomas for Brown Graduates for 50 Years.

Henry Battey Hagan, who for 50 years engrossed the diploma
s for graduates of Brown University, died at his home, 214 Cypress street, last night in his 77th year.
Mr. Hagan served the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Company fo
r 34 years and was assistant secretary at the time of his retirement in 1924.
The diplomas and testimonials which he engrossed were the r
esult of the development of a hobby. Mr. Hagan was a skilled penman and also turned his hand to drawing and sketching.
He engrossed Brown and St. George's School diplomas until t
he time of his death. For many years he also did the diplomas for a number of the Providence public schools but in recent years had ceased to do that work. His penmanship also was applied to numerous testimonials for prominent personages in industrial fields and churches.
Mr. Hagan was a member of the Beneficent Congregational Chu
rch and served for several years as its treasurer. He was a member of a number of church committees at the time of his death.
Mr. Hagan was born in Providence, Feb. 24, 1864, the son o
f John Hagan of Paterson, N.J., and Abby Townsend Battey of this city.
His wife, Lucy Pease Phillips Hagan; one daughter, Mrs. Ern
est Anthony of Swampscott, Mass., and two grandchildren survive him.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Irv
ing H. Drabble funeral home,309 Benefit Street. Rev. Arthur E. Wilson, pastor of Beneficent Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will be at the North Burial Ground.Page: Page 14
