Here's the transcription of the antenuptial agreement, fro
m "The Armchair Researcher" Vol. 4, No.3, Fall 1983:
"Page 11 - Articles of agreement - Fayette County, Georgi a - Articles of agreement made and entered into between James Garrett of the county & state aforesaid of the one part and Levicy HAMMOCK (widow) of the county & state above mentioned of the other part. As follows when the said Levicy HAMMOCK (widow) is seized to her and to her heirs in fee simple of and in certain property to wit: five negros: Deal, Moses,Easter, Mary and her child
Hannah & their family increase & twenty-seven head of cattl e & theincvrease & household & kitchen furniture as follows three featherbeds & furniture, & two bed-steads, cupboard and sideboard, three pot sand two ovens. And where as a marriage is shortly intended to be had and somemnized between the said James GARRETT & Levicy HAMMOCK (widow)with whom the said James GARRETT is to have and recieve the benefits arising from the above mentioned property during the said Levicy HAMMOCK's lifetime and at the death of the said
Levicy HAMMOCK the whole of the above named property whic h is at the time in existance to be returned with an equal division with all of my children.
In testimony where of the said James GARRETT & Levicy HAMMO CK have here to set

Interestingly, on the same page of the "Armchair Researcher ", there is a transcript whereby a "J.B. GARRETT" is granted power of attorney to act on behalf of "Cheadle COCHRAN" in a matter involving a Mr. WOODS. It mentions JB's mother, though not by name: "as my lawful attorney to put or assign my name to any instrument of writing or bond that maybe required by the court as security for said guardianship or otherwise as the case may be for you or your mother or both as may be determined" It's dated 18 October 1826.
