Note: Willoughby Hammock Wilkes Co., Ga. in 1788 on jury duty. There was a Wileby on a GA tax index in Jackson Co ., HopkinsDist. in 1799. Willoughby won lot no. 262 and lot no. 263 in the Georgia lottery in the 19 Dist. of Newton Co., Ga. ( formerly Baldwin,later Jasper Co., Ga.)

This is in the most eastern part of Newton Co.,Ga. A total of 110 acres.

ESTATE OF WILLOUGHBY HAMMACK 9 Oct 1823 In recess (of Court of Ordinary)John B Garrett & Thomas Hammack applies for Letters of Administration on the estate of WILLOUGHBY HAMMACK, decd. Temporary Letters was granted to the said John B Garrett & Thomas Hammack, who were duly qualified and gaveWilliam Pace for security. 1 Dec 1823 Ordered that John B. Garrett be and he is herebyappointed Administrator on the Estate of WILLOUGH HAMMACK, late ofthis County, decd, and the Clerk of this Court issue Letters ofAdministration accordingly. The said J.B. Garrett being duly qualifiedas Administrator, gave William Nelson, & Joseph Anderson for security. 6 Sep 1824 Ordered that John B. Garrett be and is hereby apptd Guardian to THOMAS AARON HAMMACK, orphan of W. Hammack, decd. The Clerk of this Court issue letters accordingly. John B. Garrett, Admrmade a return of Sale Bill which was examined and admitted to record. 1 Nov 1824 Ordered that John B. Garrett be & is hereby apptd Guardian to MATILDA HAMACK, and LUVICY HAMMACK, orphans of WilloughbyHammack, decd, and that the Clerk of this Court issue Letters accordingly. Thomas B. Garrett, Admr of Willoughby Hammack estate, made a return of part of the property of sd estate. Sale Bill sold at 12 months credit. 10 Jan 1826 Upon the petition of Rebecca Mann stating that Willoughby Hammack in his lifetime, did execute his bond or instrumentin writing binding himself in the final sum of $500 to make her the sd Rebecca Mann good and lawfull title to all that part of LL #30 on the South side of the southern branch of Yellow River, LD #10 of originally Henry now Newton Co when the last payment should have been made, & the sd Rebecca Mann being now ready to make the last payment and having prayed the passage of an order making John B Garrett, Admrof estate of Willoughby to make her title to the sd land upon thepayment of the sum specified in sd instrument. John B Garrett ordered to make title to her at July term of this court, or when payment is made. A copy of this rule to be published in the Georgia Patriot at least once a month previous to the 2nd Monday in July. 6 Mar 1826 John B Garrett, Admr of estate of Willoughby Hammack,decd, made a return on the estate for part of the year 1824 and the year 1825. Which was received by the Court under the usual oath. 4 Sep 1826 Ordered that John B Garrett, Admr execute titles to RebeccaMann for the part of LL #30, LD #10 formerly Henry, now Newton Co and the sd Rebecca complying with the requisites of sd bond. Jun 1826 John B Garrett, Admr made a return of sale Jul 1827 John B Garrett, Admr made a return of sale. 5 Jan 1835 Petition of John B. Garrett, Admr asks for Letters of Dismission & approved by Court. To be published once a month for 6 months in one of the public gazettes of Ga. John B Garrett made 2 returns on sd estate & admitted to record. 6 Jul 1835 Jno B Garrett, Admr made a return, received & admitted. 7 Sep 1835 John B Garrett receives Letters of Dismission on the estate of Willoughby Hammock, decd.

NEWTON CO ESTATE RECORDS, VOL 1 A-K 1822-1900 by JOHN L. BRUNO HAMMOCK, WILLOUGHBY 1823 pg 133-134 Newton Co., Georgia He died without a Will sometime before Oct. 9, 1823 which was thedate Temporary Administration was granted to JOHN B. GARRETT andTHOMAS HAMMOCK On Dec. 1,1823, the day JOHN B. GARRETT was appointed permanent Administrator of the Estate. The Administrator1s Bond was for $60,000.WILLIAM NELSON, JOSEPH S. ANDERSON and THOMAS GARRETT were sureties.Reviewing a store account shows the last purchase was made on Oct. 2,1823, for one gallon of brandy so it is likely he died between the 2nd and 8th of October 1823. The Estate Inventory was made on Feb. 7,1824. He owned 39 slaves. On Dec.27, 1824, they distributed those slaves to the heirs as follows: JOHN B. GARRETT got Andrew, Winney and Amy; BENJAMIN HODNETT got Jane, Nancy J. and Sealy; THOMAS GARRETT got Tony, Molley, Sarah and Jake; WIDOW HAMMOCK got Moses, Easter and Mary; THOMAS HAMMOCK got Milly, John, Mary, Mariah, and Charles; AARON HAMMOCK got Moses, Lyney, Reuben, and Franky; JACKSON HAMMOCK got Davis, Amy, Tom and Theany; MATILDA HAMMOCK got Job, Nancy, Peter, and Easter; WILLOUGHBY HAMMOCK JR. got Saul, Adam, and Nancy; LUVICY HAMMOCK got Dice and Ellick, Milly and Pompey. He owned several tracts of land. The ones identified were Land Lot 30,10th District of Newton County which was sold to WIILLIAM MOSS for$263.50, and Land Lot 4, 5th District of Fayette County which was soldto AARON HAMMOCK for $155, Town Lot No.8, Square was sold to D.DICKSON for $25.25. On Nov. 2, 1824, the Court appointed JOHN B.GARRETT Guardian of MATILDA THOMAS HAMMOCK age 16, AARON HAMMOCK age14, and LUVICY HAMMOCK, orphans of WILLOUGHBY HAMMOCK, deceased. There are signed receipts from heirs in this file as follows, BENJAMIN HODNETT, JOHN B GARRETT, THOMAS GARRETT as Guardian of JACKSON HAMMOCK and WILLOUGHBY HAMMOCK JR. (55 documents)
