Individual:
He was named after an older brother who died very young.
Farm ( Lot 21) next to his father's homestead.
George was a man of many traits and three wives. He wo
rked in a mill in Innisville about the time he was married which would be about 1875, and I believe that he must have been there at the time my father, Robert, was born. As Uncle Wilbert told me his father (grandfather George) told him he walked from the place where Robert was born to Innisville to work, and his was a stone house on a farm believed to have been formerly owned by Catherine's father (Robert Ferguson).
George operated a stone crusher and used steam tractio n engines (he may have used horsepower earlier). He had a sawmill and a threshing mill. He also framed barns and some of the hewing on these being done with a broad ax.
I recall my father, Robert, telling me that George had o ne of the first cars on that road - a Model T, and that some of the neighbors came out to watch it pass by on the road.
--Vernon Lewis Presbyterian
George Lewis purchased F/W., Lot 21 Concession 5 from Willi
am Cullen (this may have been purchased in 1902 and not registered until later). He farmed here and operated a sawmill until his death in 1929. Active in politics. Served on council for a year and was Road Commissioner for a few years. The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. M. Curry and was large
ly attended. The flowers were a pillow from his family and a wreath from his grandchildren. The pallbearers were three nephews, John McNaughton, Joseph Lewis, Jim Lewis and three neighbors, William Coleman, William Tetlock and Thomas Cavanaugh. Interment took place in the 8th line cemetery, Drummond.Personal notes attached to his family records.
