From Obituary (Bellefontaine ?, OH newspaper)
Death of Walter Courter
Occured at the Hospital on Main Street Saturday Night
After an Operation for Bowel Obstruction Had Been Performed
Walter Courter, aged 34, a machinist in the Big Four shops, died Saturday night at the hospital following an operation for obstruction of the bowels. Mr. Courter had resided in Bellefontaine but a few months and part of that time had been in ill health. He went back to work last Monday, but was unable to remain and finally decided to resort to the operation, but to no avail.
Deceased was married and had two children. He was an industrious man and well thought of by all who knew him. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the family home, corner of Jay and Lawrence, in charge of Rev. S.E. Greenawalt, and the remains were sent to Delaware for interment. The machinists attended the funeral in a body.
Walter Courter was machine foreman for a number of years, coming here from that city. He was also Vice President of the local I.A. of M. at the time of his death. The machinists attending the funeral in abody numbered about 125, attesting their high regard for the departed workman.
The following are the palll bearers who accompanied the remains to Delaware: Allen Armer, Wm. Welch, E. Detrick, K. Kehler, S. Christie, W. Prall.
From original newspaper clippings found in Nellie Klee Courter Klee's picture album:
"The friends of Walter Courter and wife will rejoice with them in the advent of a son March 13. Mrs. Courter is remembered as Nellie Klee. They reside in Chattanooga, Tenn."
"We are in formed (sic) that another child has won a place in the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Courter, (Mrs. Courter was formerly Miss Nellie Klee.)"
"Walter Courter, who resigned the General Foremanship of the Cincinnati Northern shops to take a position in the Detroit Southern shops, in Springfield, has gone to that city to look for a dwelling for his family. The vacancy caused by Mr. C.'s resignation is being filled temporarily by Tim Riley."
"Walter Courter, ex-General Foreman of the Cincinnati Northern shops, was tendered a pleasant surprise, last evening, at his home on Center street. The shopmen, in order to give expression of their high regard for Mr. C., presented him a handsome rocking chair."
