James Peterf West was born May 2, 1848 to Mads Andersen West and Julie Marie Mikkelsdatte
r on the Danish Island of Bornholm. It is not known just when James Peter came to the United States or what led him to Virginia City. Julie Marie Mikkelsdatter died some time between 1845 and 1850. Sometime between 1845 and 1850, Mads remarried to Juliane Dorthea Larsen.
Mads and Juliane Dorthea came to the United States in 1868 to live with James Peter. Jul iane Dorthea died and was buried somewhere in New York state. Mads West, his father continued West to Yerington.
Annie Cooper was born in Illinois on July 4, 1861 to Mary Cooper and her husband. She tra veled across the plains with
her mother and brother, Edward, to Virginia City, Nevada. Mary Cooper married George Hernlebi en and together they made a home for Annie, Edward and their own daughter, Mary.
James Peter West met Annie Cooper and married her in Virginia City on Feb 20, 1883. The y moved to Mason Valley, Nevada to farm. To this union, five children were born: George Franklin, Edward Andersen, Mary, James Henry and
Viola Anne.
James Peter West died May 10, 1910 and is buried in the Yerington Cemetery. Annie West co ntinued to live in Yerington with an active life helping hers sons in the hardwares store and enjoying her grandchildren. She passed away in 1921 and is buried in the Yerington Cemetery.
