Text: information of siblings given to me my Ilene Wallace Jeffers
"William Gill born c1777 VA died >1850<1869, son of WIlliam Gill, and married second (DAR statement) 12 Aug 1813 in Morgan County, GA, Rhoda (Pop?) Poole born c 1787 in SC died >1860 (he is clearly a descendent of Wm. Gill b <1738-d 1780-81, because the children's names are the same. I believe this man is the son of Wm. Gill of Iredell County, North Carolina norn c 1750 died in 1797). If Rhoda did not have children until she was c21, then they would have had none born before c1808, which is pretty consistent with the records below. This excludes the Thomas Y. and Hiram in the 1821 land lottery as children."
"In 1828, a William Gill paid the Poor School tuition for George Woodward age 13 in WIlkes County, Georgia (Wilkes Co. Papers p113> Wm. Gill winess, State vs. James Carter, 1813, Wilkes County, Georgia (Wilkes County Papers p.176), and the William Gill in the census there matches this one in age. Grand Jury Feb. 1818 (ibid p.179), 1818 Grand Juryagain (ibid p.182). May 1822 one of three persons sued by Jeremiah Burdine for debt, inferior court, Book E for 163 (ibid p.206). (Andrea record #80) Wm. Gill in Wilkes Co.,GA is names Guardian for Sarah & Elizabeth Woodward orphan children of Hy Woodward 2 Oct. 1812 in a suit Wm. Woods vs. Estate of John Freeman. (Following, and children 7 and 8 from Dan Nichols) Capt. Wm. Gill officer of Col. Thomas Wooten's Regt., 180th, Dist. Co. of Militia 9 July 1812."
"He is listed in Wilkes Co., GA in the 1830 Census, but in Meriwether Co. in 1840."
"One of first settlers of Meriwether Co., GA, which was laid out from Troup Co. in 1827.""Early merchants in Meriwether CO.: Thomas and WIlliam Gill." "1840 Meriwether Co., GA census age 73, born in VA. "Rhody" GIll was alive at 72 in the 1860 census in Meriwether Co. GA with son John A. Gill."
