In oder to index both Pitman and Pittman this file has been doubled as
PITMAN or pittman
or
pitman or PITTMAN the upper case indicating the surname as found. Since indexing ignores case this trick allowed me to mix the two into one major file. I was (and still am) looking for he parents of Rachel Pitman who md 18 May 1801 Mercer Co., Ky John Compton -my direct connection. SOS any hints appreciated. Some 2500 names later I am still looking. I did concentrate on Va NC and soutgern -not New England. Pehaps I was in error?
