Individual:
PERSONAL HISTORY OF D46- (JOHN) DAVID LENTZ-- He appears in "Wendel
Miller History" on p. 15. His name is also shown sometimes as JohnDavid LENTZ and as David J. He was baptised at Organ Ch., sponsoredby his grandfather Philip Miller. They married in 1835,and nothing was found to show them in Iredell Co., NC. Someonereported that Evelyn Moyer was daughter of "Dr. Moyer." After theCivil War, they settled in the Hillsboro, IL area. They had 7children.
He shows on the 1850 census of Rowan Co., NC as John D. Lentz with 5 children, ages 2-13.
He also shows on the 1860 census of Rowan Co. as David with his oldest son having left home and 2 younger children added. The 1860census also shows attached to the family "Maxl. (?) L. Mowery, age 4.This is probably a Moyer orphan related to his wife. We have norecords on births in IL or after 1860. There are no additionalchildren shown for this family on the 1860 Rowan census.
He is David on the 1870 census of Rowan Co., NC, at age 58,
wife age 56 -
Children: (At home--his only children who were at home.)
D466-Laura, age 30
D467-Augusta, age 19
Also with the family are the following:
B769- Crawford LENTZ, age 18, male, white, son of B76-David LENTZ who died before B769- CrawfordLENTZ was born. He was baptised at Organ Ch.by the widow Nelly LENTZ with the name Jacob Crawford LENTZ. The following 4 people were also with the family of D46- David J.LENTZ on the 1870 census:
(1) Lucette MOYER, age 16
(2) Margaret MOYER, age 14
(3) Jesse COZART, age 24, and (wife),
(4) Mary COZART, age 22. This is believed to have been D465- Mary Saleth Jane LENTZ, adaughter of David J. LENTZ, her married name.
All or part of these may have moved to IL (probably the Hillsboro area) and lived there for a while.
Additional children shown on the 1870 census Nos. 1 and 2, must be Lucetta MOYER and Margaret MOYER, sisters or relatives ofthe wife of D46- David -- Evelina MOYER. Grace LENTZ of Hillsboro,IL, says that Evelina MOYER was a daughter of "old" Dr. MOYER,(probably of Hillsboro, IL.)
From LH, Chap V, p 66: D46-David J. LENTZ and Evalina MOYER moved their families to IL, the Hillsboro area, sometime after the1870 census of Rowan Co., NC. Records of the families of theirdescendents do not show up in NC. The 1870 census showing D46-David J.LENTZ and Evaline shows only D466-Laura, D467-Dewalt Augustus, born1851.
All the other children, from D463- through D466-,may be found on records in IL. He moved to IL after the 1870 census, or not longafter the Civil War. David J. LENTZ was not found on the 1880 censusof Rowan.
Court (apparently in IL) laid off widow's provisions on 2 Oct 1872, which shows that he had died and that she was a widow on 2 Oct1872.
His estate was sold 22 Feb 1883, 5 children, heirs on 30 Aug 1873.
(Grace LENTZ of Hillsboro, IL, gave us our first list of his children. Records on the children can be found around Hillsboro, IL.)
Organ Church Baptismal record states: "Dec 4, 1811, David (Lentz),
baptized Jan 5, 1812, parent Dew. Lenz, sponsor Phil Miller." Noticethat Lentz Heritage states that his birthdate was Dec 3, 1811. PhilMiller was his grandfather. As of 24 Dec 1995 I don't know where I got this date.
Rev. Rothrock Diary states: "Mon., May 6, 1872--Attended to the
funeral of Col. David Lentz at Bethel Church. Preached from 1 John3:2. Dinner at John C. Miller's. Returned home."See birth info for baptismal info.
Marriage:
Bonded by John Moyer.
