Two 1869 report cards from the Lexington Seminary, Scott County, Indiana showed that he was an excellent student in U.S. History, Grammar, Written Arithmetic, Geography, Algebra, and Latin. However, he was frequently tardy and was often marked down for "indecorum". Sylvester Passwter was named by the Scott Co, IN jury commissioners in June 1882 to serve as petit juror at the June term of circuit court. On 10 Feb 1887 Sylvester Paswater bought at a Scott Co tax sale land previously owned by Cynthia Morgan: 50 A., part of SWQ, Section32, Township 3 North, Range 8 East. Beginiing at NW corner, SWQ, then S 60 rods, E 103 1/3 rods, N 60 rods, W 133 1/3 rods to beginning. On 3 Oct 1887 Sylvester conveyed this tract to his father, William Paswater. The Paswater family, including 7 children, moved from Indiana to Lancaster County, Nebr. by train in 1888, in time for the Great Blizzard of that year. The following year they moved to their new prairie home, south of Raymond, in which they lived for 31 years, the NE Q of Section 19, Oak Township. The family changed its name to Paswaters to avoid embarrassment. 1898: The Raymond Independent caucus elected G. S. Paswater as a delegate to the county convention at Lincoln, July 27. He was also elected as Central Committeeman. [Malcolm Messenger, 8/16/1898] G.S. and Sarah Jane moved into Raymond in 1920, where they celebrated their golden wedding in Feb. 1923, at which all of their children were present. G.S. served as Mayor of Raymond. At the time of his death in 1933, G.S. owned 1/3 interest in Lots 4, 5, and 6, the South Half of Lot 2, and 2/3 interest in Lots 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Block 17, all in Bowman's Second Addition in Raymond. G. S. suffered a slight stroke 26 Nov 1933. Dec. 22--Friday--His last day to be out of bed. He was up and down a lot. Ed was with him all day. Was taken very bad that evening and did not speak again. Died Wed. Dec. 27, 5 PM. [notes by dau. Nora] G.S. was survived by 20 g-children and 7 gg-children. The funeral was held at the Raymond Presbyterian Church. He was buried Friday, Dec. 29.
