CLEARFIELD PROGRESS, Clearfield, PA, January 2, 1936
GEORGE WESLEY SMEAL
George Wesley Smeal, 82, passed away at his home in Philipsburg Saturday evening, December 28, 1935, about 6:30 o'clock, following a prolonged illness from complications incident to his advanced years.

Born in Boggs township February 22, 1853, Mr. Smeal lived in the Morgan Run section, where he followed farming until about six years ago, when he retired and moved to Philipsburg and lived until his death. He was a son of Daniel and Elizabeth Logan Smeal, pioneer residents of Boggs township.

On March 15, 1881, he and Miss Florence Ogden, of Clearfield, were united in marriage, and to this union there were born the following children who survive: Mrs. Mable I. Goss and R. Oscar Smeal of West Decatur, and Lester T. Smeal, of Clearfield. His wife preceded him to the grave nearly thirty years ago. Her death occurred January 14, 1906. One brother, Collis Smeal, of West Decatur, also survives.

Later he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Graham, of Clearfield, who survives him with the following children: Wesley, Robert, Marie and Maude, all at home.

Mr. Smeal, while in the vigor of health was known for his unusual kindly disposition and many friends will have only the fondest memory of him. During the latter years he bore his affliction unmurmingly.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the family home. Interment was made in the family plot in Hill Crest cemetery, Clearfield, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Rogers, of the Methodist church.

Casket bearers were six of his grandsons, namely: Maynard, Wayne and Gerald Goss, Wilson and Dean Smeal and Dewey Little.
