Individual:
Obadiah was probably born in Hartford and was early in Farmington, but not a first settler. He was presented for "freeman" to the court in May, 1669, and was one of the "proprietors" of 1672. He took an early interest in the Mattatuck enterprise and was one of the "original 30". There is evidence that he joined the settlement early and had an old town plot and a proportion of fence in the division.
He had a tardy, slipshod way of doing things and when the time came, he was not in compliance with the articles. Therefore, his allottments were condemned in 1682. There is some contemporary discussion about whether he was lazy, or just had too many daughters and not enough sons. His rights were later restored.
He had a house and lot on the north side of Main Street, next west of Phillip Judd. It was three acres and was the first to run through to a back street.
Obadiah and Hannah were both members of Mr. Hooker's church in Farmington. They were in full communion with the church as of March 1, 1679.
He was ill for some time before his death in 1702. His inventory amounted to 138 pounds when it was probated on Nov. 24, 1702.
